With over a decade of voice studio instruction experience, my goal is to foster a sound, healthy vocal technique that can be used for any style of music, and encourage a love of singing that brings joy to each singer’s life! When teaching voice to solo singers, I create engaging lessons that address each individual singer’s interests, strengths, and goals, in a positive and nurturing atmosphere. I accept students ages 13 and up, and especially enjoy working with adult singers.
I offer private voice lessons and unique combination voice/Alexander Technique lessons. Both types of instruction include vocal exercises designed to support individual technical development, as well as solo voice repertoire, carefully chosen to suit student interest and skill level. In combined voice/Alexander Technique lessons, I directly address the general coordination of the singer while tying vocalization into the process, which allows improvement at a more fundamental level and fosters incredible vocal growth.
Singing is a many-layered art, and I teach vocal technique with an awareness of five core areas: Supportive and energized body; Efficient, and actively released breath; Active resonance and conscious vowels; Free articulators and streamlined diction; Thoughtful registration. These ‘layers’ are tied together by our thinking and our connection to the music we sing, as each singer grows in technical ability and musicianship.
